Message from the Director
Welcome to our website of the Meta-Engineering Research Institute. On April, 2013, the Meta-Engineering Research Institute was established in the Graduate School of the Japan University of Economics as the first and only research institute on Meta-Engineering in Japan. It aims to be the Center of Excellence (COE) for Meta-Engineering bringing together the wisdom of the circle of concern on Meta-Engineering.
Innovation is the key to boost the world’s economy. In particular for Japan, as far as it boasts itself as a world leader in science and technology, creating a cascade of innovation is needed to get out of a long tunnel of stagnation. But how? The first step is to break away from traditional attitudes and approaches.
Engineering is the process to get an optimal solution to a problem, and not only engineers but also everyone addresses challenges through the engineering process. Engineering, indeed, has helped solve many problems and facilitated innovation. However, most of the recent increasingly diversified and complex issues are beyond the traditional Engineering and thus, Meta-Engineering is needed to see things from new angles.
